Here are some case histories of CD Content Packaging jobs executed by Bizgraphic that show a variety of different applications and reasons why the client chose to publish his material on a CD-ROM in addition or in place of printing or distributing it via the Internet.

Decisive factors were mostly Bizgraphic's ability to build complex setup routines and to automate the creation of interactive Table of Contents (TofCs), cross-document navigation and indexing. In most cases we also created the graphics of the CD label, the packaging, the user interface and the Flash animation.

Example: Library on CD-ROM

  • Reasons: To have a comprehensive collection of fully interactive documents available off-line, with table-of-contents in four languages and full-text search engine covering the entire library.
  • Contents: over 700 documents. including a 300-page global report, in PDF-format in English, French, Spanish and Russian.
  • Each language has its own interactive table of contents, sorted alphabetically by title or by topic. Documents in other languages are visible in all TofCs.
  • Preparation: Download documents from a website, convert to PDF-format, complete embedded metadata (e.g. insert meaningful titles), build interactive table of contents, index all documents for inclusion in the search engine, programming the start-up routine.
  • Navigation: All documents were rendered fully interactiv, i.e. bookmarks to important chapter and paragraph headings were added and the contents pages, were made live or ‚clickable' with links to the correct physical pages.
  • Platform: PC, MAC, LINUX and all other operating systems for which an Acrobat or Adobe Reader is available. No other installation required..

Example: Abstracts on CD

  • Reasons: provide delegates with a complete set of cross-referenced and searchable hand-outs. CD was also used as insert in a medical journal, but with different packaging.
  • Content: over 2000 abstracts, interactive TofC, search options by keyword and author.
  • Tasks: convert documents to PDF, TofC, indexed documents, search engine, setup routine.
  • Navigation: TofC by agenda items, complete with speaker name, topics and titles.
  • Platform: PC and MAC, detects presence of Acrobat or autoruns with on-board Adobe Reader.

Example: Add value through interactivity and reduction of printing costs

  • Reasons: reduce cost of printing and add name indexing and full text search facilities.
  • Content: 30 proceedings in 3 languages, 14 reports in 7 languages, delegation index.
  • Tasks: created Flash animation for language selection, extracted list of delegates, sorted in alpha order by language viewed, programmed the setup routine.
  • Navigation: TofC by agenda items and by highlights with links to pages inside documents.
  • Platform: PC/MAC hybrid, autoruns with Flash animation and on-board Acrobat,.
  • Print: identical documents (3 x 1500 pages/3.2 kg) were printed from the orig. word docs, but quantities were reduced from previous years.

Example: Documents to targeted audience

  • Reasons:distribute semi-confidential documents to selected HR managers.
  • Content:over 400 curriculum vitae of graduating students in PDF format.
  • Tasks: merged photos with word documents, created PDF output, setup program.
  • Navigation: alphabetic TofC by student and by department + search engine.
  • Platform: PC and MAC, autoruns with on-board Acrobat +setup.
  • Print: a 400-page book was digitally printed from our PDF documents.

Example: Winning support for a scientific project

  • Reasons: assemble complete project and research information in one piece.
  • Content: 10min animation of PIMMS machine, research documents, several PhD theses and a custom made magnet deflection calculation program for physicists.
  • Tasks: developed complex setup routine, index documents, convert drawings for publishing
  • Navigation: 2-page TofC to launch all views and programs + search engine.
  • Platform: PC and MAC (calculation progrgram for Windows only).

Example: All-in-One: program, images, drawings, data and text

  • Reasons: program uses hundreds of parameter files and images - CD was only viable option.
  • Content: proprietary program for professionals (architects, electrical contractors), calculates light distribution, prints data sheets of selected luminairs.
  • Tasks: create 100+ tech. drawings, convert images, assemble and verify data sets, index 2 500-page catalogues, setup routine uploads different data depending on market.
  • Navigation: setup installs desktop icons to program and catalogues.
  • Platform: PC only.

Example: Collection of legal documents and templates

  • Reasons: distribute information to a select circle of medical doctors.
  • Content: papers and legal documents in PDF format and word templates in several languages.
  • Tasks: created PDF output , interactive TofC, setup program, Flash animation.
  • Navigation: select language in animated opening screen, view/print documents via TofC.
  • Platform: PC and MAC, autoruns with animated splash screen.

Example: Cypriote Art - Catalogue raisonné of a museum collection

  • Reasons: make the catalogue interactive, searchable and colourful (a first for this kind).
  • Content: over 1000 pieces of antique art, each with a photo, a hand-drawing and a detailed description including cross-references.
  • Tasks: scanned images and drawings, javascript and HTML documents created.
  • Navigation: via browser.
  • Platform: PC and MAC, autoruns with animated splash screen.

Example: Educational with multimedia content

  • Reasons: wide distribution of this free educational program to teachers around the world.
  • Content: a HTML-based educational tour with quiz and various 3-D calculation programs, lots of java-animations, all developed by 2 CERN physicist PhDs.
  • Tasks: develop setup routine, assemble content.
  • Navigation: through browser.
  • Platform: PC and MAC (3-D programs only PC).
